Paula Kaner is a senior executive with a 30-year career in the Canadian financial services industry. Having held senior leadership positions in regulation, compliance, operations, finance and business development, Paula brings a unique and diverse set of skills and experience to the team.

Paula joins Wellington-Altus from the Alberta Securities Commission (ASC). Over the past decade, she has worked to support the development of the regulatory framework in Canada.

At the ASC, Paula was responsible for regulating the Alberta Capital Market by identifying emerging risks, trends and regulatory gaps in the equity and derivative markets, and developing and administering rules, policies and oversight programs to mitigate those risks. She managed a team of professionals responsible for the regulation and oversight of self-regulatory organizations, marketplaces, clearing agencies, crypto platforms, and other market infrastructure entities.

Paula has also contributed to the development of international regulatory frameworks, having represented the ASC as a member of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO), where she contributed to a number of significant international policy initiatives as part of IOSCO Committee 7 on Derivatives.

Paula’s career in financial services also includes Chief Financial Officer for Blackline Safety, a publicly traded global technology and service provider, and Director and Vice-President for IQON Financial, a financial services organization headquartered in Winnipeg which she co-founded, led and managed for over a decade.

Paula began her career as a Chartered Accountant with KPMG and earned a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) degree from the University of Manitoba.
